If you have any questions that have not been answered here, contact us!
Q: WHAT IS KEY CLUB? DO YOU MAKE KEYS THERE?
No, we don't make keys but we do open doors.....to opportunities! KEY Club stands for Kiwanis Educates Youth and we are a service and leadership club (the loudest and proudest in our school). You can learn more about Key Club here.
Q: HOW DO I JOIN KEY CLUB?
There's no official way to join the club but you can start by signing up for emails and coming to our meetings or events!
Q: ARE MEETINGS MANDATORY? DO I HAVE TO EMAIL BEFOREHAND IF I CAN'T MAKE IT TO A MEETING?
Our meetings are not mandatory so you don't have to email us! We encourage you to come to the meetings but if you can't, it is totally fine because there are so many other ways to stay active in the club. It is more important that you go to events and participate in our advocacy than come to our meetings.
Q: WHAT ARE DUES? DO I HAVE TO PAY TO VOLUNTEER?
No, of course not! Dues help keep Key Club International running - they are not mandatory but highly recommended as they come with many benefits. You can learn more about dues here.
Q: I AM NOT GETTING EMAILS. WHAT SHOULD I DO?
If you are already a part of our mailing list, check your spam folder first. If you are still not receiving the email, contact us here. If you are new and would like to be a part of our mailing list, sign up for emails here.
Q: WHAT IS THE POINTS SYSTEM? HOW MANY POINTS DO YOU NEED TO BE A MEMBER?
The points system/spreadsheet is for members to keep track of their service hours and activity in the club. You are not required to have a certain number of points to be a member but you do need to maintain 350 points each year to receive club credit for Bronx Science's National Honor Society. Don't worry if that sounds a lot - it is actually quite easy to earn points! Learn more about points or check your points here.
Q: I DIDN'T GET POINTS FOR SOMETHING I ATTENDED/MY POINTS ARE INCORRECT. WHAT SHOULD I DO?
Contact us here and our secretary will fix your points for you! Please be considerate of the secretary's heavy workload and don't take the mistakes to heart. Sometimes, with so many members to keep track of, there are a few misses here and there.
Q: WHAT DO YOU DO AT DIVISIONALS?
All the clubs in the divisional gather for a meeting lead by the Lieutenant governor. You get to meet people from other schools/clubs in our division, share food, catch up with each other and hang out. During the meeting itself, we learn about what other clubs are doing and talk about past/upcoming events.
Q: WHAT IS A PROJECT CAPTAIN AND WHAT DOES HE OR SHE DO?
A project captain, chosen by the board or a projects co-chair is a member that has volunteered to take temporary leadership during an event. We encourage all members to volunteer to be project captain for an event sometime throughout the year, even if you've never been one before. He or she will be responsible for sending out an email before the event with information for the attendees, taking attendance the day of the event, leading the group and speaking to the organization people on behalf of the group as well as updating the events spreadsheet after the event. Learn more about how to be a good project captain here.
